To help keep all pupils safe, please ensure the school has up-to-date information about any allergies your child may have. Accurate allergy information enables us to put appropriate support plans in place, train staff effectively, and respond quickly in an emergency. We all have a part to play in creating a safe environment, including following our nut-aware policy and being mindful of the food brought into school. If your child has an allergy, please contact the school or update their details via Arbor. Be Allergy Aware and Save A Life - see more here.
The PSHE curriculum is designed to help children develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to understand themselves, build positive relationships and make healthy, safe and informed choices.
We use Jigsaw PSHE across the school, which provides a consistent and progressive approach to PSHE from EYFS to Year 6. Through the six Jigsaw themes, Being Me in My World, Celebrating Difference, Dreams and Goals, Healthy Me, Relationships and Changing Me, children have regular opportunities to explore their feelings, develop resilience, understand and celebrate differences, and learn how to look after their physical and mental health. We want children to leave primary school feeling confident in themselves, respectful of others and able to recognise when they need support. Our PSHE curriculum also helps children develop the skills they need to manage challenges, make positive choices and contribute to their school and wider community.
Jigsaw PSHE follows a spiral curriculum, meaning that key ideas and themes are revisited each year and developed as children grow and mature. This allows children to build on previous learning rather than treating each topic as a stand-alone unit.
Children begin by developing an understanding of themselves, their feelings and their relationships with others.
As they move through KS1, they develop their understanding of friendships, emotions, differences, healthy choices and how to stay safe.
In KS2, children revisit these themes in greater depth and begin to consider more complex issues. They develop greater independence in managing emotions and relationships, explore physical and mental health, online safety, relationships, diversity, goals and aspirations, and learn how to recognise and respond to situations that may not feel safe.
The Changing Me puzzle also provides age-appropriate learning about growing and changing, with content developing as children move through the school. This ensures that learning is appropriate to children’s age and stage while preparing them for the next stage of their development.
By the end of Year 6, children will have revisited each of the Jigsaw themes several times, with their knowledge, understanding and skills developing progressively throughout their primary education.
