To help keep all pupils safe, please ensure the school has up-to-date information about any allergies your child may have. Accurate allergy information enables us to put appropriate support plans in place, train staff effectively, and respond quickly in an emergency. We all have a part to play in creating a safe environment, including following our nut-aware policy and being mindful of the food brought into school. If your child has an allergy, please contact the school or update their details via Arbor. Be Allergy Aware and Save A Life - see more here.

Curriculum Intent

At Gordon Children’s Academy, our MFL curriculum is designed to spark curiosity about the world, broaden horizons, and develop vital communication and linguistic skills in our children. We believe that learning a language is not just about acquiring words but about opening doors to different cultures, perspectives, and ways of life. By introducing French from an early age, we aim to inspire a lifelong love of languages and an appreciation for the diversity of the world around us.

Through engaging, interactive lessons, our children will develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French. This will enable them to communicate confidently and effectively in a second language, preparing them for the multicultural world they will grow up in. Our curriculum emphasises the joy of discovering new ways of expressing oneself, while encouraging children to make connections between their own experiences and those of people from French-speaking cultures.

We believe that language learning fosters open-mindedness, empathy, and respect for others. By immersing Gordon children in the traditions, customs, and histories of French-speaking countries, we aim to nurture a deeper understanding of global citizenship and cultural diversity. In doing so, we hope to inspire our students to be curious, inquisitive, and open to exploring new cultures.

In line with our school’s ethos, the MFL curriculum will serve as a platform to broaden our pupils’ horizons and help them grow as global citizens who are well-equipped to thrive in a multicultural society.
